Mayor Fillmore called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. and acknowledge that the meeting took place in the traditional and ancestral territory of the Mi'kmaq people, and that we are all treaty people.

13.2.1 Councillor Morse

Councillor Morse submitted a petition from individuals regarding an intersection located in the Bridgeview subdivision with approximately 360 signatures requesting changes to the intersection in front of D.J. Butler Park to prevent pedestrians from being struck by motor vehicles.

Ross Jefferson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Discover Halifax gave a presentation and responded to questions of clarification from Halifax Regional Council. Jefferson spoke to strategies regarding consultation with citizens and industry representatives, washrooms and other public facilities, access to the harbour islands, short term rentals, diversity and accessibility as a lens for tourism, venues supporting arts communities, and carbon emissions mitigation and sustainability.

Brian White, Vice President of Destination Development for Discover Halifax responded to questions of clarification from Halifax Regional Council. White spoke to consultation with African Nova Scotian communities in North Preston and other regions.

Maggie MacDonald, Executive Director of Parks and Recreation responded to questions of clarification from Halifax Regional Council.

THAT Halifax Regional Council:

1. Adopt the recommendations as outlined in the private and confidential report dated November 13, 2024; and 

2. Direct that the private and confidential report dated November 13, 2024 be maintained private and confidential.

TAKE NOTICE that, at a future meeting of Halifax Regional Council, I intend to bring forward a motion to request an information report on updating The Moving Forward Together Plan. The report should include information on a timeline for completion and any other information that can be communicated to the public about Halifax Transit’s plans for updating Halifax Regional Municipality’s Transit Strategy.
